About Hlanganisa
Hlanganisa Community Fund for Social and Gender Justice is an intermediary grant maker that channels funding to the grassroots level.
Our work is aimed at contributing towards achieving social justice through enhancing the capacity of community-based organisations, promoting human rights and equity, and fostering agency and cohesion in communities. We focus on access to justice, gender justice and women’s leadership development and climate change and energy justice.
Hlanganisa operates in South Africa and in the Southern African region.

Deadline for Applications: 16 July 2025 We are looking for two (2) Community Mentors who will act as a key support to partners/sub grantees, by assisting them in identifying their organisational development needs, gaining access to grant funding, building their capacity to implement effective programmes that have a positive impact.
Role Purpose
Community mentors act as a key support to partners/sub grantees, by assisting them in identifying their organisational development needs, gaining access to grant funding, building their capacity to implement effective programmes that have a positive impact.
Mentors work to empower partners (partners) to access funding, comply with funding requirements, identify their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities; plan what they want to achieve and take appropriate action and develop activities to provide and improve on their community programmes and services. The position facilitates capacity strengthening programmes for the CBOs and selected social movements in the specific geographic area.

Key Accountabilities
Partner Identification and Baseline Assessments
Support partner identification in province
Provide administration support to prospective partner on application requirements for grant
Provide technical assistance with online application process and reporting
Participate in on site baseline assessments in alignment to Hlanganisa funding criteria.
Make recommendations on final organisations to partner with Hlanganisa.
Conduct comprehensive capacity needs assessment and categorise using the Hlanganisa bronze-to-diamond framework.
Facilitate for partner contracting through compilation of necessary documents.
Grant Admin & Support
Document all contact with subgrantee partners for ongoing relationship management.
Update partner information regularly on Hlanganisa’s grants management system.
Coordinate and maintain grant cycle calendar and site visit schedules.
Support head office in maintaining the online CBO database, by providing soft and hard copies of grant files, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data.
Maintain records of grantee relationship history.
Collect data to generate quality information for administering and managing the programmes.
Capacity Assessment and Enhancement
Identify capacity needs of partners in the five primary areas (governance, financial management, human resources, programme impact and community reach).
Identify leadership capacity needs.
Develop capacity strengthening plan to be agreed on with partners, identifying resources and action plan.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions to impart knowledge and build skills and competencies of the partners
Provide tailored individual and group capacity strengthening support to partners.
Link partners with capacity strengthening opportunities aligned with their capacity strengthening plan.
Capacity strengthening through partner report revision and feedback.
Implement capacity plan and measure capacity development in accordance with Hlanganisa’s capacity strengthening strategy.
Mentoring & organisational development support
Conduct regular support visits to partners in province and conduct ongoing reviews
Provide support to partners as needed, informed by the initial baseline assessment and no-going reviews
Provide support in programme planning, including guidance on the implementation of their programmes, including project management, budget allocation and monitoring and evaluation
Monitor support interventions, track growth and identify areas of support required by partners.
Develop specific identified skills and knowledge of partners as identified in capacity plan
Draft and share with programme officer program implementation lessons learned.
Capture partners success stories and program impact.
Grantee Relationship Building
Build effective trust relationships with partners
Establish and maintain relationships with community members and other stakeholders in province.
Facilitate Hlanganisa subgrantees networking with relevant stakeholders and institutions including non-Hlanganisa funded community-based organisations.
Build Community Networks
Help partners map community resources.
Build networks with community leaders, government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant organisations in province
Collaborate with community networks to maximise and mobilise resources and expertise.
Foster networking culture amongst Hlanganisa partners in the province.
Assist partners in advocacy, to ensure that community voices and issues are heard
Foster ownership and a sense of shared responsibility amongst partners
Provincial Representative
Act as Hlanganisa’s custodian in the province
Ensure that Hlanganisa opportunities are widely disseminated to expand reach.
Advocate for Hlanganisa position in stakeholder engagements.
Represent Hlanganisa at local meetings with stakeholders.
Coordinate other Hlanganisa interests in the province.
Close Out
Conduct grant close-out procedures including grant close out report.

Date: May 2025 Role Purpose
This role is responsible for securing sustainable funding for Hlanganisa in line with its strategic objectives. The primary objective is to raise financial resources by cultivating relationships with donors, funders, philanthropic organisations, corporations and foundations.
Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organisational skills are essential to align donors’ philanthropic interests with Hlanganisa’s goals, fostering long-term partnerships and financial stability.
Formal Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in a relevant field
Must be South African or have the right to work in South Africa (work permit)
Skills & Experience
Developing and implementing strategy to generate income.
Direct experience of fundraising via trusts/foundations/government and intermediary grant funding
Considerable experience in stakeholder management, donor relations and partnerships
Previous work experience (approx. 7 years plus) in the NGO sector, working with donors and government and CBOs
Established network of government, NGO, community and funding agencies
Demonstrable experience developing successful partnership/funding agreements
Innovative approach to partnership development: creative collaborative and sustainable outcomes.
Excellent proposal writing, research and communications skills

Key Accountabilities
Fund Raising Strategy & Implementation
Develop and executive a target-driven fund raising strategy with input from the Board, Executive Team and staff that aligns with Hlanganisa’s objectives.
Conduct research to identify potential funders, grant / philanthropy opportunities and sponsorships
Identify and approach new and existing international and local funding opportunities
Explore new funding models such as cause-related marketing and shared-value partnerships to diversify income streams. • Monitor trends in corporate giving and philanthropy to refine engagement strategies and strengthen Hlanganisa’s positioning among high-value donors.
Engage with donors and funders to secure unrestricted funding as well as project-based funding
Comms & Visibility
Leverage with Comms to drive innovative donor acquisition campaigns and enhance Hlanganisa’s visibility.
Leverage with Comms to create compelling donor-facing content, including targeted appeals, impact reports, crisis updates, and thought leadership pieces.
Plan and execute high-impact stewardship events for Corporates, Trusts, and Foundations, ensuring alignment with Hlanganisa’s annual strategy to strengthen donor relationships and drive financial commitments.
Represent Hlanganisa at key networking and industry events, proactively identifying and cultivating potential high-value donors to expand funding opportunities.
Facilitate targeted donor meetings with senior stakeholders, including board members, trustees, and fieldworkers, ensuring strategic engagement that fosters long-term partnerships.
Proposal Development
Develop high-quality, impact driven funding proposals tailored to the specific needs of donors
Ensure proposals align with donor guidelines and organisational priorities.
Maintain a database of funding proposals, donor applications, and funding cycles.
Monitor and track the progress of grant applications and funding appeals.
Work closely with the Programme and Impact Director for proposal approval and submission.
Pipeline
Identify and determine the suitability of partnership opportunities and participate in the management of the opportunity pipeline
Undertake research to identify new and prospective partners across both the government and non-governmental sectors which maximise opportunities for shared value
Donor Engagement and Relationship Management
Develop and maintain donor profiles for Corporates, Trusts, and Foundations, etc. leveraging data insights to tailor engagement strategies and maximise fundraising potential
Identify, cultivate, and steward high-value donors through personalised engagement plans, and exclusive networking opportunities.
Research donor structure and philosophy to ensure well informed initial engagement.
Prepare proposals that are congruent with the potential donor’s social responsibility
Present proposals in a manner that will enthuse the potential donor.
Ensure that contractual agreements are acceptable to Hlanganisa
Keep to donor feedback schedule on deployment of donated funds; restricted as well as unrestricted funds.
Respond formally to donor queries within 48 hours of receipt. Responses that require investigation must be replied to with a timeline commitment for the formal response.
Project funding must be closed with a comprehensive report on the project, for the records of the donor.
Complete all reports to the donor
Monitoring, Evaluating and Reporting
Submit monthly progress reports detailing fundraising efforts, donor engagements, and funds secured to Executive Team and CEO
Track and evaluate fundraising performance against targets.
Provide data-driven insights to improve fundraising strategies.
Prepare quarterly fundraising plans aligned with donor cycles and organisational needs.
Financial Sustainability and Target Achievement
Set unrestricted funding and project specific annual targets and gain approval and achieve set targets
Set and track financial KPIS (e.g., donor acquisition, retention, and ROI) to evaluate performance and optimise fundraising strategies.
Support the Executive Team in developing long-term funding strategies.
Explore and implement innovative fundraising approaches, including online fundraising and donor appeals.

This role will oversee and provide strategic leadership to Hlanganisa’s programme and impact department. The Director will work collaboratively across the team, and organisation, to ensure rigour and focus, making sure that capacity and resources are managed to deliver the best possible impact, taking a lead in the monitoring and evaluation of work and contributing to thought leadership of the organisation.
Formal Qualifications
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (with considerable experience); ideally, a post-graduate qualification in fields such as social sciences, politics, gender studies, public administration, or related

Provide expert strategic advice, guidelines and support of the development and implementation of best practice, ‘fit for purpose’ programme strategies, systems and processes including risk management, stakeholder management and support services to donors and communities.
Oversee and approve the design of programme operational plans.

Oversee and approve the development and implementation of grant management strategies, policies, and procedures.
Oversee the entire grant lifecycle, including pre-award (research, proposal development, submission), post-award (monitoring, reporting, compliance), and closeout.
Impact & Assessment
Develop and implement a strategic framework for impact initiatives, ensuring they align with the organisation's goals and objectives.
Develop and implement systems for measuring and reporting on the organisation's impact, using evidence-based data to inform decision-making and improvements.
Oversee the production of regular reporting to target audiences according to specified deadlines.

Oversight of day-to-day operational functioning of office, including IT, Health & Safety, providing support to staff in terms of facilities and equipment to perform their roles effectively.
Formal Qualifications
Tertiary qualification preferred. In its absence, at least 3 years’ experience.

Office Management
Ensure adequate stationery stock is available for staff needs, and order as and when necessary

Ensure offices are well maintained, tidy, clean and presentable at all times
Oversee staff and service providers to maintain offices in good condition
Vendor Management/Procurement
Secure and manage contracts with service providers and negotiate competitive rates, based on procurement policy
Prepare contracts for general external consultants and contractors as required (not programme related) and ensure that service level agreements are in place for work done by consultants/contractors
Receive invoices from consultants/contractors and ensure delivery of services before sending to Finance for processing
IT
Log IT calls and attend to requests, as required
Liaise with external IT consultant as required
Procure IT services / equipment in line with policy and with necessary authorisations
Facilities Management
Maintain office facilities, furniture and fittings, air-conditioning, lights, water, furniture in good condition
Source quotations for equipment based on agreed specifications
Liaise with landlord on building administration, facilities and maintenance as required
Organise parking for staff and visitors
Ensure that offices comply with Health & Safety standards & legislation
Ensure that new staff have the required office space, and equipment to operate from day one

Reception
Act as receptionist as and when needed, to deal with general issues (not programme specific issues) and particularly when high volume calls or visitors are anticipated
Staff Travel
Act as primary interface with travel and rental service providers, maintaining good working relationship, negotiating competitive rates
Book staff travel, including flights, accommodation and car rentals (excluding CEO)
Logistics
Manage bookings of board room/meeting rooms for staff
Prepare meeting room and venues, ensuring appropriate equipment and refreshments are available and in working order
Staff Management
Manage the performance of Administrative Assistance and determine development needs as necessary
