THE NGO/CBO TWINNING PROJECT: STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY LEVEL GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE INTERVENTIONS

THE NGO/CBO TWINNING PROJECT: STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY LEVEL GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE INTERVENTIONS

The Join Gender Fund prioritises providing resources to enhance, strengthen or accelerate the work of community-based organisations (CBOs) involved in combating GBV. Under this programme, a CBO is defined as a loosely structured organisation that usually consists only of one tier of staff/volunteers that conduct all the business of the organisation such as delivering services and conducting fundraising”. Programming responses supported in this project focus on the community as a whole to address violence against women and girls, with a specific focus on interventions that include some or all of the following aspects:

  • Provision of response services, such as counselling and/or support services to survivors of GBV
  • Addressing critical drivers of GBV, such as alcohol abuse, unemployment, poor service delivery, attitudes and beliefs which normalize violence, etc., with a view to combating GBV
  • Integration of strategies that transform consciousness of men and boys, whilst centering and building the agency of women and girls

  • Contributing towards prevention whilst making the linkage to improved response services to mitigate GBV

  • Bring different stakeholders together for improved impact, where possible in partnership with local government and other local stakeholders

Organisations forming part of this project are located in various districts in Limpopo, North West and Mpumalanga provinces.
